My daughter told me that her work mate said  she had celery  pulled it out and left some stalk and it turned into celeriac...........could this be so!!  Would this happen.

Left over stalk/root could resprout with short leaves and look like celeriac
but the two are distinct, one cannot turn into the other.

BTW I'm growing real celeriac again this year - really worthwhile

They are the same species, but so are cabbages, caulis, brussels, kales and broccolis.  I think she probably got some coarse leaves resprouting from the base, and maybe the roots near the surface got quite large, rather than the proper bulking up of the stem.

Well lets hope she didn't eat it, I thought they were two different errmmmm!!! things for want of a better word.
