« on: March 02, 2009, 09:18 »
Morning All,

Wonder if anyone can help, I am considering buying this for my garden, and wondered if anybody had come acoss this before, and if it would be any good.

Any advice would be appreciated,

I have always found electrical equipment from LIDL and Aldi to be excellent value, I would certainly go for this one if I hadn't already bought Mantis Electric (£270, nearly five times the price) last year. The Mantis is probably better but only in the fact that it has 40 blades as against 16 on most other makes (although they quote 4 blades they are really 4 rotors with 4 blades on each, the normal set-up for Rotavators), it's method of working is slightly different as well. Power wise it is very similar, Mantis 750w, LIDL 710w. Be aware that it does not till as deep as the Mantis, Mantis 10", LIDL about 6".

Make sure you have an extension lead long enough and always use a lead capable of the maximum 13amps, they are slightly heavier gauge cable so you don't get so much loss of voltage over distance. ALWAYS fully unroll the cable as a rolled up cable generates heat and loss of voltage.

First thing is that it is not a rotovator, its a soil conditioner. Not heavy duty enough to really rotovate,.
I got one last year after a neighbour got one and sang its praises and I must say its a very good piece of kit, as long as the soil is not damp and claggy.
