Marble sized egg
« on: February 24, 2009, 19:27 »
Could anyone let me know if the size of eggs laid are affected by moulting?

One of our Greys recently went through a 'quick' moult and I have noticed in the last week her comb has started to grow back.

When I went to collect our eggs today I was suprised to find a VERY small egg  could this be hers??

Thanks

EMma

Sounds to me like a wind egg :)

Normally get them as the bird comes into lay or towards the end of their laying life.
Have you cracked it? They normally have no yolk :(

Hi, got all our 6 chickens at POL in July this year.  All have been laying as we were getting 6 a day during aug-oct.

Will get a picture and try to post it.

Would like to see a pic too  ??? Sarah- I've never heard of a wind egg before, or seen one either. Are they common?

To be honest I've only ever had one that was the last egg Mo ever laid :(
My 8 year old Lidy laid proper eggs right to the last :)

I suppose it all depends on the individual bird ???

Ok, hopefully this works  ???  I have put it up against a 'normal' sized egg.  It is smaller than those we had when they first started to lay

I do hope this is not one of her last  :(  It does however seem conincidental that she has been through a moult.  Fingers crossed it is just a one off.

Let us know it it has a yolk when you break it.

There's another here in a topic on our useful topics sticky in the Poultry Information section

Had 5 eggs today (from 6 girls) and all 'normal' size. Lets hope this was just a hiccup
