NNW/SSE is so close to NS it really doesn't matter. Some people run their rows EW anyway.
Just line it up. The beans don't grow NS they grow up. :D

Many thanks for this common sense. I'm happy to get going with my new bean frame now as soon as I have the chance. I've been dithering having had the old traditional bean-frame in the same place for so long.

Next time on the plot I'm marking out the new trench and sticking in the poles! :)

I sowed some in Oct again but these aren't looking great. They didn't appreciate the snow this month. Half of em have died. I'm not sure it is worth starting em in Autumn? I never have any luck with em in autumn anyway. I sowed the leftover seeds into the empty spaces yesterday.

I think it has been a pretty tough winter so don't give up.... you could be eating broadbeans much earlier than the rest of us who left it until recently to get them started. :)

I planted mine out in early February last year but had been thinking about trying an autumn sown variety.... I think I will give it a go this coming autumn.

Hi ...planted mine out back in october, about 150 of them...
lost abouta dozen maybe15 or so.. still not
enough a loss to bother about, they are now 6-8 inch high,
so far looking good, considering recent weather,

(Aquadulce Claudia...if my memory serves me well.  ::) )

and planted direct into the soil, no special prep or anything.

Don't think I will need to plant more.. :) as I,m the only one
who eats them!!!!

Bye PAH

I bunged mine straight in in Oct/Nov - also Aquadulce
Fleeced them during the snow and cold weather
Uncovered yesterday to prevent the soil from drying out - discovered a few 1-2 inches high, the rest about 0.5-1 inch.
Hopefully the pigeons won't have them.
First time I've done this autumn planting lark - previously got them going in a pot in greenhouse in spring and then transplanted taking all the compost with it.
Count me in for the competition for the first crop :)
If at first you don't succeed..... cheat!
