« on: February 20, 2009, 20:19 »
Hi All,

I have to decide on the following and would like your views on which option to take...

Do i go with three raised beds 6 feet by 25 feet or...
Four raised beds 4 feet by 25 feet. ?

thinking about the future and crop rotation aswell as is four foot wide bed easier to manage.?

Would be gratefull for all opinions and suggestions.

Thanks

Steve

Four foot wide is the best as you can reach into the middle without having to tread on the bed.  It is recommended that beds are not longer that about ten foot long as the temptation is to step on them rather than walk around.
Cheese makes everything better.

My beds are all 4ft wide, and I can just about reach into the middle to weed.
(and I'm over 6ft tall)  ;)

Actually I'd make 8 beds meself. ;) My beds are all about 4ft by 4m plus some odd shaped ones for permanent stuff, on the left over areas.
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

I'd go with 4' wide for the reason others have mentioned. Also I would do as woodburner said. Path way through the middle of the long side of the beds, say 18"wide. That would give 8 beds around 11'6" long.
