My new toy, a vintage Kenwood Chef
« on: February 19, 2009, 19:56 »
I don't care if no-one else shares my happiness, but I have just bought a 1970s Kenwood Chef for £40.

It's hardly ever been used.  All the attachments are still in their boxes and the original manual/recipe book is also in mint condition.  The woman I bought it from hates cooking

It's got a K blade, balloon whisk, dough hook, mincer and sausage maker, glass liquidiser, none of that plastic rubbish.

Been wanting to buy one for ages but couldn't afford it.  Result. 8)
Cheese makes everything better.

Just think, you'll be able to make your own sausages now!!!!  shall I send you a turkey and you can start practising???   :) :)

Thank you for the offer Ann but I will have to decline. :D  Just did a quick google and there are loads of gadgets you can still get for it.

Oh yes, you can get gadgets to peel your spuds, slice your runner beans, grind your coffee, squeeze your orange juice and more!!!! Keep your eye on ebay for accessories, there are always loads on there, but I am happy with my mincer and sausage maker!

I don't use the liquidiser very much, as my hand blender is smaller to get out of the cupboard first!!!

But not one that will make tea in the morning though.

I have a plastic liquidiser, but this glass one is a thing of beauty.

I won mine in a raffle in 1974 and its still going strong. Apparently you  can get good money for them at auctions.

any chance of a pic?  ;)
I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!

I love kenwood chefs!

MY mum gave me hers from the (very late) 60s cos she doesn't use it anymore.
Plastic jug, though, but still brilliant.
and i don't think it ever had a dough hook, but we do have the mincer and other stuff.
Mum said she had to buy the mincer separately, but she used it nearly every day when we were little.
And, yes, there are millions of other attachments that you can still get - all the new kenwood Classic chefs have the same size doobry-sprocketts as the old style ones, so you shouldn't have a problem getting matching parts.

I'm not surprised they fetch good money.  This one is in mint condition but I won't be tempted to sell.

Mum and dad bought me one about 8 years ago.  It's fantastic and thankfully has a metal bowl.  Mum's original when they got married is still gong strong.  Fantastic things

can u post a pic Ice? i would love to see it.

I once went on a day out to southport and there happened to be a car boot sale on. Walking round there was an old style mixer with a big bowl that went round , i just had to have it. which meant for the next few hours on our family day out i had to walk round with it. My daughter was not impressed at all and an hour later along the front couldn take it no more and shouted out 'this is the worse day out in my life' the 20 or so people around us including me and my wife burst out laughing. Needless to say we still ask her 'is this the new worse day in  her life' when she is upset with something/anything.

Ice, I think you bought the one I was watching.

Was it listed as 'collection only'?  I'd been eyeing it up for days - well done.  :D
Are we nearly there yet?

I got this from an ad in the local paper so it isn't the one you were watching.

I'll take a picture after I've been shopping.  I'll take the cover off so it is completely starkers.

I have one that dates back to 1953 the motor has been "repacked" whatever that means and it works fine. It's so heavy that you run the risk of injury just moving it
