Sick Rooster
« on: February 13, 2009, 18:39 »
I had a little Bantam rooster about a month ago who's head was to the side. He couldn't move it and kept falling over. I once had a rabbit that did the same thing and my vet said it was an ear ache.I  figured it was that and I put him on an antibiotic. With in a week he was back to normal. But not to long after that he got it again and I put him back on antibiotics and 3 days later I found him in the coop unable to movie and his poor little head was so far down I couldn't even see it. I new there was nothing I could do and I didn't want to see him in pain so I had him put down.  :(
Has anyone ever heard of that or had it happen to them?

He was a mix of a few different kinds of Bantams.

if it was twisted neck, it can happen to any breed, but is more commin in breeds such as poland.

its a neurologicolol ...huh? problem. and theres no cure. very very rarely they can live with a mild case.

im sure you did what was best for him, even tho its hard x

hi, I had one like that too. It just seemed to happen suddenly, I can't say I noticed it coming on gradually.
i fed and watered her by oral syringe for a few days but in the end she had to be culled as she didn't improve at all, and since then I feel really guilty that I actually prolonged her suffering.
I think that it can be a symptom of newcastle disease so i was paranoid about the others for a while, but they were all ok, so I never got to the bottom of what caused it.

sad as they are, these things happen I guess x
