How many litres.........
« on: February 11, 2009, 15:08 »
of compost is enuf to grow a tomato plant?

I have about 20 buckets but they hold about 40Lt. Obviously i don't want to waste
compost/money by filling them if i don't need to.........or can i fill them and plant 2 toms per bucket?

I usually grow mine in a 10" or 12" pot which is about 7.5 ltres.  I suppose you could pad the bucket out with stones or polysterene, but I am not sure about that, so wait for some more answers. ::)

Have you got any compost/manure in the garden?  I put manure in the bottom of mine, then just soil, but of course if you haven't got enough soil, then bought in compost.  Those sure are big pots Mumofstig!!!

They certainly are - that's about the size of an average grow-bag!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

You lot made me think iwas having a blonde/senior moment ???
So i have been furiously filling the bucket with the litre jug just to see if i was as stupid as i look

I was a lt out  exactly 39lt to the brim.
They were being used as powder (nontoxic) storage in a warehouse and my son recycled them my way.
But you can see why i dont want to fill them if i don't have to.......

My immediate thought is 2 per pot, not much worse than trying to squeeze three in a grow bag!

Was gonna do that with some of them. A couple of seed in each i thought and just keep filling them as they grow........... sounds a good plan to me :D
