How would you kill it off completely, I wonder?

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Simple to poison once cut to ground level.

I agree that a syc on an allotment is not good.

Two questions

Who owns the allotment?

Was the tree there when you took it over?

What you should do is dependent on the answers to these  We are allowed trees but only cultivated ones.

On our farm they chopped down loads of limbs from the sycamores and we were allowed as much as we wanted.  We stacked it all up and dried it out and it's great on the fire!
The trees grow back (they intended to pull out the stumps but never did...  ::) ), but if you chop off most of the limbs, you should be able to keep the seed shedding to a minimum.  I'd chop the worst branches every two years for a decent amount of firewood.

wrt to roots - you could try the old walled garden trick of chopping the roots every year.  It's back=breaking and you have to go under ground, but that would help as it restricts how far they will grow.

Mr B

Dave did NOT have permission to let that one off Mrs B.  It will take ages to decontaminate the forums now  ::)

the site is owned by the council well the church actually but the council rent it an one day it will go back to the church when they need more room for graves . the tree has been there as long as i have lived here and thats 29 years now.

i dont have the money to get it cut down and seeing the council wont cut it down the tree is to be left. we have i think 50 plot holders on my site an apart from 2 plots getting seeds on them they are the only ppl that have moaned everyone esle dont mind it except this new woman behind me who has already given grieve for nothing . my girls were there long before she was and i cant do anything on my plot without { in her words } informing her first well thats what she keeps telling me . so if i want to build a 4 foot high compost bin i need her permission first thats how stupid she is  :nowink:

we also have sycamores surrounding the site anyway , some in ppls gardens along the back fencing to the site and some in the cementry . there was 2 smaller ones growing rite next to it an i would say they were about 20 foot high an 2 plot holder guys took them down an they are re growing although very slowly as the girls keep eating the new shoots ,lol. an this other tree must be 50 foot or more well its taller then a house .

I agree.  The tree has been there decades, the two landlords of the site won't cut it down so there's no reason to expect you to pay for that.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
