Thanks for all of the advice in reply to my Friday post.  the chicken survived the weekend and so I took her to the vets yesterday afternoon.  Was forunate enough to stumble on the vet with a genuine interest in chickens.  He agreed that egg peritonitis was the most likely and that she was starting to get  a chest infection.  We have started her on IM injections of antibiotics ( I have just given her a second dose) and she sounds a bit better WRT her chest.  Don't know how she will do but vet said that he she might wall off any intrabdominal problems so i suppose where there is life there is hope.
