The worlds most expensive leek?
« on: February 09, 2009, 20:39 »
I paid 90p for one leek in Sainsburys in Basingstoke today. That has to be a record!

My own on the plot were rubbish this year and this week frozen in the ground, but even so 90p!!

Can anyone beet it?

No - it's an allium, not a beet! :tongue2:
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Ok I'll ask...

Why did you buy it?  Was it a very important leek?  90p gosh that's about a euro (bah humbug exchange rate moan)!  Again why did you buy it?  I'm intrigued! :tongue2:

My goodness thats a price ! I bought two packs of seeds from Wilkos for just a little more than 90P and I should be able to produce about 400 leeks from that if I wanted but I'm sure 200 will be enough !!  :)

Thought that you might like to know that the Portuguese word for leek (Alho Porro) translates into English as "Truncheon Garlic" so over there it's the leeks that do the beating/beeting!

Well, I paid £8.95 for 16 cabbage plants last year from T&M.  Potted them on, planted them out and... forgot to put fleece over them  :(

Didn't get a single cabbage but the caterpillars had a feast !

Oh Nipper, just think of all the packets of seeds you could have bought for £8.95!!!  and some of them may have reached maturity too!!!! :)

Was too late to start my own off, so thought it was a good idea at the time.  Am also very new to all this allotment malarkey and now realise I made a massive mistake.
Maybe I should read John's book (again) !
