Unhappy blueberries
« on: February 08, 2009, 11:00 »
Hello,
I have two dwarf blueberries in pots of ericaceous compost sitting down my lottie. I bought them two seasons ago and during their first winter they kept most of their leaves, however, this season one of them looked very ill for most of the summer and has now lost all of its leaves and is looking a bit dead.  :( The other plant still has most of its leaves and looks fine. Has anyone else had this happen? Is it dead? What can I do to resurrect it? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

It is only my first year of growing blueberries but both of mine lost their leaves over the winter but there are new ones starting to appear again now.

As far as I am aware it's perfectly normal for them to lose all of their leaves - I wouldn't worry at this stage!  :)
For the latest on the BIG project, read my blog.

Had one for 6-8 years now and it has lost it's leaves every year. They are describes as giving good autumn colour which, to me at least, would imply they are deciduous. ???

Just make sure they are in acid soil and I suspect there is nothing to worry about. :)

All the above sounds very promising! I'll scrape at the bark next time i'm there... fingers crossed for green!
Thank you all very much!  :)

Cannot recall the variety I have but odd bits do tend to die, just the odd small twig at the end of a branch. But they are obvious - brown, dry and very dead looking.
The live bits look very much alive, the bark is green of one shade or another.
So I find no need to scrape anything.
