When will I learn?
«

Why is it that the mere fact that seville oranges are around for such a short period of time I go marmalade mad in Jan/Feb. I lose all sense of proportion.
I made about 12 litres of marmalade at the weekend!
Nobody likes marmalade that much! And I've still got a bit of last years ridiculously big batch left!
Just felt the need to confess... and if anyone (or indeed everyone) in Merseyside would like some...

too much marmalade.....
time to use some up making cakes and tarts.
I did the other night a polenta , almond and Seville orange marma cake , it was divine.
losely based on a polenta cake recipe, the bitterness was even better with Greek yoghurt.

Chrissie make your own i always did. The ordinary oranges make good marmalade as long as you add a few lemons in the mix, always got the oranges and lemons free from my neighbour as long as i gave her a few pots when made, we were all happy

Last year my marmalade was the right texture but it was very sour-tasting (worked on toast though)
this year it didn't set AT ALL
theory is that if it goes over its setting point it'll never set, but I'm not sure whether it even got far enough.
I'm going to boil up a jar to see which it is (shame cos I got about 12 jars!)

ooh! I want one!
Adam'd prob kill me though!
We've been using the unset stuff in cakes - I made a scottish marmalade cake and it was yummy with custard.

Keep on resisting! I've just found out that you've already got a Bravoska! Willpower, you can do it. (Says she who's just bought a new Stainless Steel Maslin Pan but that can just sit on top of the larder unit and doesn't need a plug).

This where the old smiley blush was good
I don't rate this new one.
My excuse for the Bravoska was that my oven died and the replacement part took 6 weeks to come but I really wasn't hugely impressed, it was ok that was all. I did use it when I did breakfast for 50 people last Easter morning, it kept the sausages hot.

Glad its not just me!
We got a huge haul of free citrus on the weekend and I've been preserving ever since. Do we really need four varieties of marmalade and two different sorts of preserved lemons plus all the stuff left from last year?
Didn't think so!
Makes the house smell nice and citrussy though!
