Let the chitting begin..
« on: February 01, 2009, 19:31 »
Having a little bit of spare time this afternoon, I decided to get down to the lottie and prepare my spuds ready for chitting. I did a bit of research and I decided to order Pentland Javelin (First Earlies) 5kg, and Maris Piper (Maincrop) 25kg.
They have been sat in the downstairs loo since then waiting for me to get a spare hour or two and get them down the lottie, well, today was the day and my daughter Natashia was there to help me too.

I started with the first earlies and sat them all upright in some trays that I had lying around,  I was suprised that out of the 5kg I got 76 seeds, and from the 25kg of maincrop I got 295 seeds all great quality too.

I ordered them from JBA's website around 8pm on Friday 16-01-08, they arrived safe and sound around 3pm on Tuesday 20-01-08. I must say that Iain at JBA couldnt do enough to help answer any questions that I had and I even got 10% off my first order  :) :)

There's one upside down.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

They are looking good in those chitting trays Andy. Looks like my safe estimates of 25 tubers per 2.5kg were not too far away at 29.5 tubers per 2.5kg of Maris Piper.
I am sure you will have a marvellous crop. :D

Or 3 families to feed,  :D we just love spuds in our house, and I always like to share with the in laws and friends.. and no doubt they might  come in useful for haggling with down the plot  :)
