I have just sown 2 packets of Kelvedon Wonder peas in a 12 foot row just like MJ says. Never grown peas before (or anything for that matter!) as a newbie, I'm learning so much from this site. thanks to you all.

Best I've ever grown were a petit pois called 'Calibra'.  They are lovely.  I'm growing them again this year.

last year I grew batches of Kelvedon Wonder & Hurst Greenshaft.  The KW produced peas a little earlier than the HG.  Both were lovely tender & sweet, but I have to say I started to be swayed by the HG because you got more peas in the pod for the effort it took to take them out

Generally the diseases & pests were fairly low.  I think it was probably some flea beetle action when the young plants had scalloped leaves but it was not too much a problem.  Next - about 1-2% of the pods I harvested might have had a little greenish coloured grub inside.  Actually, it might have been more but I didn't notice ....    Finally, right towards the end of the season, the last batch of pea pods & plants got covered in a black/grey mould.  I just put that down to the weather & back end of the year, so I wasn't too upset considering I had a very good pea season overall last year.
Failure is only a temporary change in direction to set you straight for your next success.
Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.

They grow Hursts G on our plots and the old guys swear by them. I did Kelvedon Wonder but didn't rate em much tastewise

Grew Progress No,9 last year and enjoyed them.  I like mangetouts anorl - I think they're juicier. Carouby de Mausanne has lovely purple flowers  :D
