Chickens not eating their pellets
« on: January 28, 2009, 13:03 »
We took delivery of 2 Cotswold Legbars on Saturday.  They are a year old, seem to be quite happy and are laying an egg each per day.

We were told that they would eat 1-2 cupfuls of pellets a day.  Is this right?  At the moment they are eating much less than this.  Will this give a problem?  Should we feed less household scraps?

Hi Mikey, welcome to the madhouse!!!  We feed our girls pellets adlib, and they usually eat more than the average, but give them their pellets first thing in the mornng when they are hungriest, and save the treats, whether it be household scraps or corn, later in the afternoon.  And don't give them loads of scraps, not good for them in the long run!  Just give them as a treat.

If they get the other stuff which takes longer to digest, in the afternoon, it gives them something to digest slowly through the night and helps keep them warm too!

Hope they keep laying you lovely eggs!!!!
