Plot layout,will it work.
« on: January 24, 2009, 15:57 »
Right, bought the books, read the books, got confused by the books.
First time with veg., 3 raised beds, 8 feet by 28 inches each. Filled with shop bought compost, will be adding Chicken pellets fortnight before planting.
 In no particular order,
BED A,     DWARF FRENCH BEAN, FERRARI.
PEA, OREGON SUGAR POD AND PEA, EXCELLENZ, HALF ROW
               EACH.
BED B,      CARROT, TREVOR AND LEEKS, PANCHO.

BED C,     SWEETCORN, EARLIBIRD AND COURGETTE PARTHENON.

Will this layout work, if so can someone give me an idea of where I should plant each thing in subsequent years, to try and avoid pest build-ups etc.
If it wont work, where should I make changes and move stuff to.
To warm soil up, should plastic sheet be laid straight onto soil, raised just above it or done like a curved cloche.
Will return with loads more questions after any answers received to these,

many thanks to all who reply,Bob.

Plot lay-out will it work?
I have four raised beds and rotate each year as some veg like differnet conditions. I manure three but not the one for roots as it makes them fork. My plot plan is:
A - peas, beans, sweetcorn (mmmm)
B - potatoes
C - root veg including leeks (mmmm)
D - brassicas
The following year, A moves to B, B moves to C, C moves to D and D moves to A (brassicas love the nitrogen you get from the bean nodules in the roots so don't dig them up, just cut them at root level. Hope this helps. :)
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Just a thought i have a potato bed, a pea, bean & sweetcorn bed, and a brassica bed. But also want leeks......can they go in after the early spuds?
Is that right?

Everything else is going in pots.................lots & lots of pots

I believe they can, I think others have recommended that - just need to make sure you get the spuds out and the leeks in before it gets too late for the leeks to do any growing.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
