where do you get your eggboxes from? and what is a reasonable price to pay?

my local feed merchants only sells them in large quantities (enough to keep me going for about 100 years as i only envisage having maybe 2 doz surplus eggs a week   ) and this is obviously a lot more than i want to pay, especially as they would have to be stored in the garage or shed where they also run more risk of getting damp and therefore unusable.

Any advice please?

Ceri  :)

My sister has just given me 12 1/2 dozen boxes from her local farm shop (and they were free). I need to find a source but as only 'selling' for £1.00 per 1/2dozen they need to be cheap.

If you ask on freecycle, you might get lucky.

Had a look at flytes of fancy, shame about the P&P £4.99 which makes them too expensive for me. I would love to get to the point of donations paying for upkeep, re-stocking and getting the cost back of equipment and housing (may take a few years me thinks). Oh well do love them, can't put a price on love.

We buy 360 at at ime, usually from Ascott's, but as I needed some in the New Year and Ascott's were shut until 5th Jan, I got ours from a lovely lady on Ebay, and her P&P was just slightly cheaper too.

BB have you tried CWG?  We used to go down there and buy ours, but I don't know if they do them in small quantities.  I've also got a notice outside the gate asking for egg boxes, but no one has brought any in yet.

Apart from a couple of regular customers, I'm not selling many eggs at the moment, and ours are only £1.80p a dozen, cheaper than Tesco's cheapest!!!!  Gave 4 dozen away to the workmen today!!

have you asked local butcher/at market for a supply at cost?!   bit cheeky but u never know   my mum-in-law asked and was given about a dozen! Other than that people save us their egg boxes and we recycle.
Hellooo! I am new to this site and relatively new to keeping chickens but what fun we are having! would love more and hubby coming around to my way of thinking! Kids in love with them!

When we started having 8-9 eggs a day we asked people/friends/neighbours if they wanted eggs and if the did then they would have to keep their egg boxes they got know so everyone gives the same ones back and we just do refills   so then its fair they give us the boxes we give them the goods  and they also give us a £1 :D

£1 for every half dozen :D

i got to many laying around , i get mine of ppl from work , neighbours etc etc . those who have eggs always normally give me back 2 or 3 boxes so i am never short of them.
the only thing that bugs me is when i take a 6 egg box i get 10 eggs , or if i take a 12 egg box i get less then 6
