I have moved the hens run to a new location in the garden and I am left with a nice bare patch of soil that the chicks have pecked/scratched clear of all vegetation.
I was wondering if this would be a good place to grow onions - would the soil be suitably manured by the chicks or too rich (the run has been there about 6 months)?

Sounds like a good idea to me but I've never tried it - see what the others say.

I imagine the weather would have washed in most of the older muck.  So perhaps fork it up to aerate.  I'd expect a major rush of annual weed seedlings (and nettles) so you might want to leave extra room to get a hoe between the drills.
