Morning!.... Not been on here for a while due to ill health , but am all better now and went for a dig on my plot on Sunday.

I ended up having to have quite a fight with some strange looking roots. They were yellow in colour , quite fibrous , very strong and a long way down ... think I ended up half way to Australia!

Does anyone have any idea what these could be? Would just like to know so I can swear at them when I come across the next ones .... I've strained all the muscles in my arm yanking them out!

Any suggestions?

Keep smilin' Sal x

PS I have a blog of my allotment progress at www.salslickleshed.com , so if you fancy a look at some of my pics , feel free to take a look. It's a new site , so not much on there yet !
The sun is always shining .... somewhere!

stinging nettles - tis a good sign that you have fertile soil.
Gardening organically on chalky, stony soil.

Thanks for that. Stinging nettles sounds quite likely as there are lots of them on some of the other new plots.

Glad to hear it's a good sign that my soil is fertile though ..... makes the aching muscles worth while!

Never knew that stinging nettle roots were such a nice shade of yellow!

Thanks again

Keep smilin'
