Hi Grannie,

Things are fine thanks, I just started a new job as a community matron and life has been extremely hectic....
I just havent had the time for anything, however things are settling and I have the odd day off now with some time to go to the lottie and catch up with my pals but cyber and real.

I started my brassicas off in a greenhouse last year and won't be doing it again as they were rubbish.. will defo be putting the seeds direct into the ground when the time is right, 1st week in May I guess.

The only things I start growing now are things I will be keeping in the greenhouse, toms, chillis, etc

Hi

To help with your clubroot problem, you could use peat pots (cheep from B&Q), transplant the seedlings into them, then plant them out (pot and all) when ready, this should reduce the chance of the clubroot harming the plants, also sprinkle a little lime into the hole when planting.

Lime the soil a few months before the crop is planted.  dont plant tatties on it
Start all the plants off in clean compost in pots.
Pot them all on, if possible, into 4" or even 6" pots to enable them to form a healthy rootball before planting them out.
Make larger holes than necessary for the rootballs when planting out, filling the holes with clean soil or compost so that it takes a while for the roots to come into contact with the spores.
and you can use the stuff " we profesionlas " use its  a chemical called PERLKA and avialable to anybody just ask for it at yiour gardening store . or if ya got some  calomel .like wot i have     use that wont we shaun

mandy... (Quote) Chillis - maybe a bit early - I wouldn't contemplate sowing mine yet - maybe Aidy will step in here being a chilli expert! (Quote)
I started mine off on windowsill in January and most of them are about 4inches high now. I have put them in a heated greenhouse now but before I had the greenhouse they all did very well on the windowsills with foil at the back of them to keep them nice and straight.:)
