I know this sounds stupid but I'm very nervous about having these girls........all the others I got, I muddled my way through and then found the answers on this site!!! This time there has to be a bit more involved :?: Thanks all x

Hi Sam

I've never used mash, but from what I've read you can either give it dry or mixed with a bit of water :)

(with this weather pop it out dry it'll be wet in no time )

i always feed mine dry , and also at this time of year it doesnt hurt to give them corn mixed with it . i have been told that 50% mash an 50% corn will do them fine in this cold an yukky weather.

Battery hens would almost certainly have been fed mash dry. :thumright:

hiya

I've only had my girls since november. they are ex batt, and I give them half and half corn and mash ( as it comes) in their feed. they're quite happy with that, and scratch around the garden for sdded extras!

good luck, mine needed quite a bit of atttention in the first say 10 days, but now they behave very normally! Lovely girls!

Hey there

As with others on here, I fed mine dry mash initially but they moved onto pellets in no time at all.  They now have a combination of pellets, corn and whatever is left over from the kitchen and they are still all laying in the depth of winter!

We were advised to keep some mash around, just in case one of them gets a bit under the weather as they seem to like to revert to it when not well. Fortunately, this hasn't happened yet!

Good luck, hope they are as hardy as mine are; we've had no problems at all since we got them in Sept.

Mash can be a bit of a pain because they scatter it everywhere. Our ex-batts got the hang of pellets within a day or two when mixed with dry mash.

I would have thought that it may be possible, if necessary, to soak pellets and make a wet mash if it were needed. Someone else on here may know better.

I feed all of my guys pellets all year round with treats and scraps, but I put the pellets in a large round dish and invariably one of them stands in it and scratches as if they were outside, sending pellets everywhere in the henhouse
