Just found a snippet of info Here that says conifer chippings are unsuitable for garden mulch due to acidity levels. Don't know if that would affect chickens in any way.

That's very true !! :D  :D  ..or azaleas.

Further thoughts. The acidity could make the run turn sour and smelly quicker than normal. The more I think about it, the worse an idea it sounds.

maybe....you could always add garden lime though to reduce acidity?

You have to be careful with liming while the birds are in situ though don't you ?

I know it's been suggested to keep them away for a few days. Would be a pain to do it more than normal.
