Netting to keep off butterflies needs to have holes no bigger than 7mm. I got some from Homebase last year. You will need to build some sort of framework. If the netting is touching the leaves the little beggers stick their bums through and lay their eggs.

a good idea i got off this forum is to get scaffold netting its ideal maybe you could scrounge some from a local scaffolder ya know or find some in the skips they use,  its quite expensive to buy but worth it i suppose!

Have to agree with alandkell. Scaffold Net is the stuff. You can get it on ebay for about £30.00 for a 50metre roll 2 metres wide. Its like a woven nylon mesh, fine enough to stop almost anything getting through, but will let enough daylight in. Like has been said make sure the net is not touching the leaves.
