my girls that were sick
« on: December 31, 2008, 15:40 »
hi guys one of my sick girls that went to stay at my farmer friends place has died this morning i am not really upset as i knew she was not going to make it am surprised she lasted this long  , and the other one is still sneezing etc so shes staying put for now .

but i have noticed that over the past few days all my girls that are with me now are all sneezing an sounding wheezy is it best for me to give them the rest of the antiboitics i have , or shall i just leave them to get on with things  seeing its  so cold anyway i expect the sneezing etc.

also the sick girl that died had a swollen face maybe from an abcess or that mycoplasma or something else but i noticed on one of my oher girls just under her eye was a slight lump could  it be going the same way as the one with the swollen face u reckon . it looked solid an was just smaller then a pea  :?:  :?:

Sorry to hear you have lost one of your girls and it's not good news that your other girls are now sneezing. What antiboitic do you have for them?

You may need to ask your vet for Tylan it's for respiratory problems.

I agree with KimT.

Mycoplasma really need a "prolonged" course of tylosin rather than baytril to cure it.  You'll need to thoroughly clean the coop and run as it is carried in the dust !

Not sure as I have an eglu and a drop of washing up liquid is adequate for me.

Others will be along to recommend cleaning products for you.

I would have thought either Jeyes fluid, Virkon-s or similar disinfectants.

Can't fidn anything definite from a wuick google search but they kill bird flu and bacteria so should be fine.

You'll need to rinse out thoroughly and allow time to dry and air off a bit.

Hi there,

You need to action this as soon as possible, you need to clean out the pen and disinfect it out as it will keep circulating around the birds from the mucus they are sneezing out. There are plenty of disintectants that are poultry friendly from feed merchants. Check that there isn't any mucus in the nostrels that are imparing there breathing, use a tissue to clean them. Then you need some Tylan 200 from the vets, you can get it to dissolve in the water but this takes longer. It is better to inject it if you know how.

This is microplasma and seems to be very common at the moment especially with the weather we are having. The birds will die from this if left to get worse but can be easily treated.

Don't know hibiscrub. Might be worth doing some reading up about it just in case.

Good luck
