Hi, again, Aunt Sally - I've reposted (above) a smaller version of the photo, hope it shows this time.  One of them has laid her first egg today!  :D

Hi chicken street,  your ISA browns look the same as my ex-batts. Does anyone know if that is what breed (if any) battery hens are??

ck2day/Claire - hi, yes, I discovered that ISA browns are hybrids bred from the Rhode Island Red and Rhode Island White for battery farms but the guy I bought them from breeds them for back garden poultry keepers.   :)

I posted a very short clip of them on YouTube - this was the first time they were let loose in the garden - they were ecstatic!

Video for you:

y9aauhmUbEc

It is our week old JA757 meat chicks eating out of my hand! They are so tame - probably as the brooder is right next to my desk in the back bedroom so I am sitting next to them all day! Now everytime i put my hands into brooder to refill food or change water etc they are all there pecking at it!

Well here's the next Batch!  (and they do look a little like gremlins too!!) lol

When I called the hatchery earlier today, they said they'd had a shortage of hatchings this week and I wouldn't get any surplus until at least Monday week!  Then 5 minutes later, they were back on the phone saying we could have 125 Babcock 380's!

Luckily we'd just put the meat chicks down into the big house this morning, so it was a quick fly around cleaning and disinfecting the brooder and then down to the hatchery!

These are little darlings!  They are soooo small!!! lol
