I'll get some pics of my three up here soon (just have to wait to finish the reel of film and developed in boots!)

I'm planning to get some table birds in the new year and thanks to my Christmas pressie subscription to Practical Poultry have located some breeders but they are a long way away... Does anyone have any suggestions on which breeds to get?

EDIT:  should say that they will be free range and I'm not looking for fast growers...

Snoozisuzi, when i got my Rhrs the breeder had some table birds which he showed me. They are the same type that are used for commercial production but they are used by people who want to rear them for the table on a smaller scale.
When he first told me that they are used for modern day production it put me off but then when i realised that they are a breed which develop a good amount of meat and they can be reared as free range / organic anyway.
If you buy orgainic chickens from the supermarket they are the same breed just reared in a different way.
He had a few cockerels and hens he passed one over to me, i couldnt belive the size of it it was so heavy.
I joked comparing it to a turkey!, they were four months old and were ready for the table .
He told me they would be ready for the table at 6 weeks in the commercial industry.
They are called cobbs which are crossed with pure breds barred rocks im sure with other breeds.
They are pure white and grow fairly quickly but if you have them free range it could take a bit longer for them to be ready

Also a photo of Mrs Wellie she is a really pretty bird now and of course my gorgeous boy Mr D'arcy (Bf Orp)and Puff (Orp Hen)
