Chickens with smooth necks
« on: December 24, 2008, 14:29 »
I was in turkey a few years ago and a farmer there had a lot of chickens with smooth necks....almost like a turkey. The language barrier was too much and i could not find a correct name for them before my holiday ended.
On return asking poultry breeders I was told they were probably "Transalvanian smooth necks" does anyone shed light on this doe's anyone have these chickens I did not take any pics but i am going back this year to see if he is still there??
If you can't catch it grow it!!

Often called TNN for short. Middle N stands for naked ;)
Personally I think they look like vultures
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

I found these on a site that sells birds.

http://www.birdtrader.co.uk/birds/BT29988

But if they are talking non-standard on some colors in the advert then that possibly means they are a breeder of show stock. 'Cause only a showman cares about color.

And from the text too I'm fairly sure they have blacks, whites, blues and splash. But this is just a guess.

I had a lovely naked neck called Treacle. Others on here will remember her, she was so sweet. Hand reared after her mother disowned her, probably because she was deformed :( Bless her she laid 1 egg in her life  and the only double yolker we have ever had    she only lived until she was about 7 or 8 months and I loved her sooo much, they are fab egg layers and make good meat birds....apparently
this was Treacle

I think naked necks are fab
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most!!

Here are my latest additions. I bought some eggs from an auction site and had 7 hatch out of 12 which was my best hatch ever on shipped eggs. These came from Tennesse, about a 1000 miles from here.
