i stupidly planted 5 blueberry bushes next to some established rhubarb plants then i read you need to mulch ruhbarb in winter is this to stop the crowns getting damaged as blueberries can't have manure near them as it burns there little roots, i have chicken bedding can i use that to mulch -aubiose or shall i move the bushes which will have to go in big pots.

The biggest problem will be the spacing - rhubarb leaves can get huge on established plants and can easily cover the blueberry plants. The blueberries don't mind some shade but not the sort the rhubarb leaves would make. Determine your spacing and do what's needed. Blueberries actually like manure if you expect good crops, just not fresh stuff, and chicken is excellent for them.

The mulch is really to give the crowns a good winter feed.

But if you've planted them close to the rhubarb, is it not going to swamp the blueberries?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

i think i might get some large terracota pots in the sales and make a feature out of them! (another excuse to go to the garden centre ......yippee!!) as i noticed in the summer a few of the little bushes where totally in the shade of large leaves.
thank you for your help
