Could anyone tell me if I put fresh chicken manure mixed with wood shavings on my plot which I have just dug over would it have any detrimental effect ,

I will be planting Spinach, Broad Beans, Savoy Cabbage, Onions, Swede, Turnip, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and Broccoli but not until l April/May.

Thanks

It's not recommended to put fresh material on the plot as it uses nitrogen as it rots down - thereby depriving the soil of that nitrogen.

Far better to allow it to rot down for a year or two (wood can take longer than soft vegetation) first.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

And fresh chicken manure is high in ammonia which will burn plant roots. It needs at least 6 months to settle down (along with the stink).
