if hygene's what you're after, try smooth lino on the floor and attatch to the walls to about 2-3'. make sure you can take it out to scrub + disinfect. Also remember kiddies in too clean a house get Asthma + eczema, same with chooks they need clean but not super clean.
Someone take the spanners away from me!

That sounds disgusting :!: How lucky my girls are to live in a nice, clean, hygeinic, healthy, low maintinance eglu

But my chooks are pets and economy is not my first thought for them.  If I had a cat or dog (which I don't) I would probably want to do my best for them too  :!:

Please please people do not put lino down in your sheds, i obtained and built a shed put up some perches and laid lino putting a good covering of wood shavings on top thinking of the cleaning issue. I clean my shed every week, brush out and washed the floor. Then i noticed my hens itching and there wottles were very pale, the first place i looked was the shed but it looked ok, i dusted the birds and gave them some poultry brew, thay still itched so i ripped up the lino to fined the shed wes totaly infested. It took me a long time to sort out matters but things are great  at the moment and i hope the red mite dosent come back, but i know what im looking for now. The floor in my shed is just wood that i cover with wood shaving so it is easy to brush out and clean.

Just changed this to lower case for you. Aunt Sally X

Never, in many years, too many to comfortly recall, have I had any problems with lino and red mite. although I do line it with newspaper and straw!
