On Saturday I planted two packets of Broad Beans in 4 trays in the greenhouse.  They were watered and two of the four trays covered to tray to bring them on quickly.  I returned to the green house on Sunday afternoon to find the uncovered trays had had some of the contents dug up and eaten.  I am blaming mice, but could it be anything else?

Other than a trap can anyone offer a solution?

Sounds like a mousey.  Have you got your trays up on staging? (not on floor).  Check round base for signs of entry.  Smear some vaseline or axle grease on the legs of your staging to stop mickey climbing up.  Bait the floor of the greenhouse with short lengths of drainpipe and poison or lay traps (peanut butter works well).  All the best!

Got to be a mouse. We had mice getting into our greenhouse, and found the best bait to put on the traps was a piece of chocolate.

I have been told you can soak your seeds in parafin and this deters the little critters from eating the seeds and it does not affect germination
