Bargain Purchases
« on: February 24, 2007, 18:29 »
We decided to go up to the local tip today as they have a huge on site shop that has everyones unwanted junk for sale.

I came away with a huge compost bin (brand new) for £5 and a brand new solid pine potting bench that is 4ft long x 1.5ft deep for £15, I was chuffed to bits.

As we were leaving they just bought in a compost tumbling machine also, wish they had of had this there earlier as I would have had it instead on the one I got!

I think we will end up browsing most weekends there now!

They have everything for the garden second hand, we will be going back to get some wood for beds and fencing also!

Our local tip sells stuff too, although unofficially. I am sure the cash gets split up between the fellas who work there, but no complaints here even if some stuff is overpriced.  for instance I wanted to buy some large whisky bottles from there (empty ones      ) and they wanted 3 quid each!

cheek

Were not allowed to buy stuff now, our local recyling bod's have taken over so now perfectly good stuff gets thrown away

I don't understand, if thy are recycling then chucking it all away is defeating the object.

As they say 'One man's trash is another man's treasure'

I think it is a great idea and reasonably priced too, I have looked on the tinternet at potting bench prices and the cheapest I can find is £39.00 for a really cr@p quality one!

Yep I know but I've asked and they say no and usually add something like health and safety etc, real weird if you ask me. Been a while since I've been down there might try again next time I go.

Well I went to the local tip and this elderly gent was going to trash a wine rack, well as I am in the process of brewing my own I rescued it then he say he has loads of photo frames to dump (most brand new) so I took them and what I dont want I am going to freecycle.  Poor guy had never heard of freecycle and to be honest I don't think he knew a word of what I said to him but I now have a wine rack to paint.
