On my actual Christmas dinner plate I will definately have carrots, swede and parsnips

Hopefully Ill have some spuds, sprouts and broccoli :-)

Paula

Further to that,
all hope is gone, broccolli gone to seed, blown sprouts (or not ready yet) and a grand total of 8 spuds  :D

Loads of great swede carrots and snips though  :D

Mashed Turnips and Swedes, with Brussels and Leeks.

Was hoping for Parsnips but they forked so much they look more like Celeriac!

Enough for two though.

I've just dug up my parsnips and some of them are gigantic! There's around 13lb so a few more than we can eat on Christmas day! The cauli and broccoli never appeared - maybe we'll have them on new years day instead (or maybe I am dreaming!)

Thanks!

We already ate a few a couple of weeks ago, so the total is a bit higher still :)

I had to get down on my hands and knees to get some of them out as they were really long, i had to dig down the side with my spade to get them out.

Hope they are tasty.

On the other hand though my caulis are about the size of a tennis ball, so had to go to the green grocers and buy a proper one for the Christmas dinner and some of the dreaded sprouts :)

One sprout stalk!!!!

All our goodwill and intentions and the rest from the shops.

Cauli got frostbite, spuds came up months ago due to water. Swedes got invaded by slugs and our one sweetcorn got about 8" long with about 1" of kernals :?  :?

The sprout sprouted beautiful green leaves, but no sprouts have sprouted from this sprout

Limited success with Parsnips. The ones that did grow, grew down to about 2 inches and then forked into about sixteen or so different forks - a bit like Celeriac!

Better luck this year

Threw a few spare seeds in, under the bean frame this year, for an experiment. Late july I think. (Can't keep the seed I thought, so may as well) Anyway, the plan was to have some 'baby' roasted snips with the Turkey. Went down to the lottie this morning and put the fork in and...............................

How pleased am I!

These surrendered themselves at the weekend. Left hand one was eaten on Sunday, right hand one's been swapped for horse poo, middle one is destined for Christmas dinner. The three weighed in at 8 lb.

The trainer is to gauge scale and is NOT destined for the table!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Well, I managed to get down to the plot yesterday amongst the packing etc, and dug up a few parsnips and a couple of red cabbage.

Guess what we'll be having on Christmas Day with the beef?! Yum.

The fact that I can hardly lift the suitcase is entirely by the by!
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Went down today and dug up parsnips, jerusalem artichokes, snowball turnips and leeks, picked sprouts and kale for Christmas day. Will also be having spuds from the sack in the shed, carrots from the pots on the patio, beans and peas from the freezer and the last butternut squash. I could do some salsify, spinach and sweetcorn but even with a 3 tier steamer I'm running out of places to cook it all!
Last year we did parsnip mash with English mustard in, which was gorgeous and could be made the day before and microwaved. It's great for all those odd shaped ones.
