I've never fed mine when I've had them in past, just loads of water, I wouldn't have thought it would hurt though... :?

Do I have to feed my Christmas tree?

As parsnip said plenty of water. We have a real tree in the porch every year. We go to a garden centre near us where you can dig your own tree out of his field. We have found the key to keeping a tree alive is much the same as any plant, leave as much root on as possible and never let it dry out. If you are planning to plant it on later the tip we were given was the worse the soil is the slower it will grow, so giving it a far more natural shape, as opposed to thin and tall. So far in the last 3 or 4 years every tree we have had has planted on without fail. Hope this helps but please if any one else has any other ideas i would love to hear them, as we will end up with another tree this year. At this rate we will be selling them back to the garden centre.
I may take my time.....but i'll get there in the end.

I give mine some blood fish & Bone Meal when re-planting. mixed into the back fill.  The tree did very well despite the roots being hacked... this year its been dug up with all its roots so should do even better.
