Hi, I have just been given three 20 week old Lohman Brown chickens. When should I expect them to start laying. They have an outside run and access to the shed, but no artificial light or heat. I am feeding them layer pellets.

Welcome to the Hen House

They could start to lay any time now, pol about 19-21 weeks.
Things to watch out for are their combs getting more red and when you approach them they sometimes squat down as they think your the man bird wanting to mate :oops:

At this time of the year, you will probably have to add at least another couple of months to Vembers estimate. Cold windy wet weather with shortened daylight hours tend to knock the start date back considerably. One of them may start to lay sporadically but you'll have to wait for early spring for them to get really into top gear. :thumright:

i agree with bodger, dont bank on getting many or even any eggs now until spring.

any you get before will be a bonus
