How many broad beans should I plant in this size pot?

My broad beans are over an inch high now in my cold conservatory.

I was thinking about planting them in my large pot where I hope they will stay.

My pot is squarish 20 inch long x 16 inch wide x 12 inch deep.

I will introduce them to the outside carefully as I have been told to do.

Q 1. Am I okay to put them in such a large pot.

Q 2. If so how many beans would you put in them?

Hi there,

the pot be fine to grow them in, thats about the size i use to grow peas in.

i grow mine quite close so they can support each other.
I leave about an inch or two between seeds.

Kagganz, what variety are they? I come from Wigan, Swinley, just up the road from 't' pier, how is the old town? I would suggest if you plan to grow in pots the best variety would be The Sutton, these are drawf and you could get away with planting at 2-3inch spacings.

I have some Sutton for planting next spring, these are Aquadulce Claudia. I've only just started and wanted to grow something now. They are healthy enough........I've deffinately got the bug!

Both can be sown Autumn, dont think you will have much trouble, just keep them out of the wind.

Aidy, have you been on 'Wigan World' website? Its got loads of old and new photos on it of school photos and works and building photos too some dating back to 1900! Its worth a look if you've not come across it yet
