Hi John,

I travelled to Bishop Aukland for my Light Sussex and Throckley for my 3 hybrids that a fella was selling cheap (no pun intended).

It seems that around here, for all we're fairly rural, there are very few chook breeders and some that you do find are only in it for the cash.

What sort of birds are you looking for?  I can ask around.

By the way, whereabouts in Durham are you?

aBOUT 4 MILES FROM YOU IN BRANDON and you are right most of the breeders round hee are just in it for a quick buck. The last set i got were meadowsweet rangers and some light sussex there great birds now but its took about 13/14 weeks for them all to be laying and two out of eight are still giving very small eggs. The ones you got from bishop was it from the guy in adtrader and how long ago was that many thanks john

Yes, well, not a guy but a rather large woman to be exact!  In fairness she was canny enough but £9 for a 7 week old chick is a bit excessive when they're not particularly rare birds!

That sounds like the listing they have in adtrader, it took me too long to get new allotment sorted for chucks and now can't find reasonable priced hens anywere. £9 for 7 weeker was a bit steep I thought my £8 for what turned out to be about the same age as your chick was rich enough. The worlds gone price mad

That sounds like the woman on RC forum who was advertising her 8 week hybrids for £10, when several of us told her that ws a bit steep, she said but I've worked out the cost of food, electric and I use shavings and straw to keep them clean so they don't get diseased!

What does she think the rest of us do, raise them on fresh air?? ?????  :D

Hi bowesj
Most of the people round where I live ( Horden ) get thier chickens from Potters at Thirsk , just of the A1 . I paid £3.10 for 12 week pullets.
As soon as I can find the phone number i will pm you.
Geoff
