Overwintering onions and frost

After last night's hard frost some of my recently planted onion sets are looking worse for wear. The varieties are Troy, Radar and Red Cross and some seem to have suffed frost damage - the bulbs have gone soft. Does this mean they are now useless. I'm really new to this so would appreciate and help.

Firstly welcome to the forums, perhaps you'd care to pop into the "Welcome" forum & tell us something about yourself.

Winter onions are very hardy - I'm sure they will see harder frosts. I'd leave them be.

I totally agree with DD. leave well alone they are very hardy, it's not unusual to loose the odd one anyway.

haven't put my onion sets in yet.. went to do it on Tues AM but the ground was rock solid.. maybe the weekend

oh rotten luck :!: * rabbits, birds, moles, frost heaving them back out. It's a game innit

I covered mine with Enviromesh as I'm innundated with peskies. I reasoned that if I could get them growing away strongly so as not to get pulled out by birds, then I could take the mesh off. It flippin blew away :evil: It was weighed down far too well (I thought) Best laid plans ey :roll:
