planting fruit and veg on council land, parks etc. no, me neither. probably best not to do it at sites of special scientific interest though.

I love the thought of guerilla gardening, especially planting something simple like flowering bulbs along the side of busy roads to make them more interesting.

I must confess to never having had the bottle though!!

I've seen it done - splendid cabbages by some of the steps on the way down to the river from the Sage in Gateshead - I walked back to see that I had seen cabbages! Strange place if ever and I decided that someone definitely had a sense of humour.

Must admit, not to have done this, BUT, have seen smaller cabbages and beetroot being grown in town bedding displays. :?
I did have to do a double take on the beetroot whilst walking past, and then checked again going back to the car.
I think it's the council workers who are having the last laugh, getting paid to plant their veg in town flower borders! Crafty beggers. :)

the idea is you just do it. You don't check with the council first  :D  The whole point is to take a council-ignored cruddy corner (or whoever's corner) and put some plants in to make it look better, so that residents don't have to be thoroughly depressed everytime they pass by.  Lots of people do it and it's not new  8)

That's right CQ.  Did you see that Monty Don show earlier in the year?  He visited New York and the lady that he spoke to said that in the 70s her and her friends would seed bomb "vacant lots"  in the city.  (Derelict land to you and me).

You grab a paper grocery bag half fill it with soil and compost and a hand full of random seeds and hurl it over the fence of the vacant lot.  Bags of perennials for foliage and flowers for colour.  Genius.

we've had an idea to do a butterfly walk on a slope which is well used by the public but is often blighted by rubbish.  You all see butterfly bushes growing here, there and everywhere. We thought we'd round some up and replant them.  Not close enough to the edge of the path to be disturbed but close enough for peeps to appreciate the butterflies - far enough away not to tempt folks to get too near (hopefully)

It needn't be buddlia and butterflies, it could be anything. World's your oyster.  There have been stupid, ill conceived plantings but we're sensible I hope  :D

I don't advocate anyone do it, I'm just saying that I wouldn't rule it out

I think I've found something to do with the left over seeds that I'm never quite sure will germinate.  I've already got lots that I probably won't use next year beacuse they are past the best before date.

I'm not trying to encourage anyone you understand,  it just seems wasteful to throw away seeds that are not good enough for the plot just becasue they may or may not grow.

There's a lovely overgrown field near me that belongs to the school.  The fence around it is huge so no one can get in.  The last time they used it I was as School!  I think that will make an excellent "bomb" site this winter.
