It's 2.4x1.2m  or 8'x4' in old money.  Didn't take long to do either because I invested in a cordless screwdriver when I bought the wood.

Unfortunately you live too far away Snap Dragon or I would.

Woodburner - the plot area was cleared in tiers to start with, the sleepers wont move when they are drilled and screwed, they are braced against each other in places - on steps etc.

Thanks. :)
I should have spotted the bracing it's in plain view after all.   A very neat solution it is too. :)
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

Have a read of page 2 on this topic Pauln, there's one or two raised eyebrows there. Don't worry about them anyway, they're your plots. :)

Might do next week then.... need to get some wood ordered.

Are you going to line the inside of yours?

No, it's treated wood, not sure why you would line it.

To stop anything leaching out that 'might' and to prolong the life of the wood..... so I've heard.

I'm going to get untreated wood (cos our local building merchant will do us a deal), treat the outside and probably line it with some sort of plastic liner (think there's some in the garage somewhere) .... well that's the plan anyway.

There have been a few posts about chemicals leeching out and I decided that it is probably safe.  What you are doing will work for two or three years, maybe more.  My pallet beds are looking worse for wear after just over two years, but will last at least until next year, maybe more.

My builders merchant offered us concrete gravel boards till we told him what we wanted them for!!!

I wonder if anyone has used concrete boards for raised beds!!!
