Yes it was in May.....doesnt look that neat and tidy now though, i gave up on the neat and tidy idea as too much time weeding and not enough time to harvest :D

Deano..... I was just going to say how lovely... but you've just ruined the illusion!!!! It looked good before the weeds though!

What type of wood have you used?
I'm sure I would feel more organised mentally if I split my long bed into rasied sections like that.

I could give up chocolate but I'm not a quitter.

Blimey Janet, There's some serious raised beds there.
You should let ice know where you got those timbers from... She's looking to build some beds this winter. I bet even the slugs would get vertigo.
Seriously, you should be well proud of that. Some really lovely looking produce there. and all so tidy... I'm soooooo jealous.
Life begins... On the kitchen windowsill.

Thanks guys - I also now have a new helper on the plot, cat brought a mole in the house, I put it out the back door again, it now lives around the chicken runs, leaving lovely piles of fine soil that I collect for beds.  Mole made a boob other night, came up inside the chicken run!

Thanks everybody for your interest and replies and pictures. It seems I've created a lot of interest in this topic. It'll be interesting to see how many more take the call up and have a go. Mother hen has burst my bubble with those pics, I'll never get mine that good. Time and patience.

They look amazing but I don't think I could afford wood that solid.  I'm off to Wickes right now to look at and maybe purchase my gravel boards.  My previous beds were made from pallets but I don't have the energy to do that again.

WOW mother hen you might even convert me away from lazy beds ;)
That's really nice the way you have dealt with the slope too!
How have you fixed the boards at the top by the grass?
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

Woodburner - the plot area was cleared in tiers to start with, the sleepers wont move when they are drilled and screwed, they are braced against each other in places - on steps etc.  The sleepers were back filled above and the area re-seeded.  The sleepers are expensive but I think they will last for years and 2 strong men can soon make things happen, you could do one bed a year and you dont need to buy garden seats!

Over winter I want to move raspberries, redcurrants and blackcurrants out of beds so I can plant more veg, will leave blueberries though as that bed is filled with appropriate soil.  Will put fruit in a fruit cage I think as birds enjoyed most of it.

Des - I loved your little polytunnel.  Will have to copy that,  Deano, Bombers and Paul I think your beds are really good too - but then again I love to see productive gardens.

Alfman - sure you will create something really great, :drunken: (bubbles)xx

the sprouts!

I put in these raised beds years ago, then " loaned " it to a mate for a couple of years and got it back in awful condition    Still now Ive started clearing it Im ready to plant next year.
Raised bed no dig all the way    just keep piling on the compost from the bins and its a doddle. Need to watch what you plant in new compo but all fits in with the rotation .  Will my first picture attemt work ??

          Cheers  Alan
