of a problem with them.

Its just occurred to me that I use swinging perches for most of my birds. I do this  in the main, to keep the birds fit because they get exercise while they are perching. The perches are  suitable lengths of wood suspended from the ceiling by bailer twine. What if I don't get bothered much by redmite because they can't get to the birds easily? Also,  if they did, it would make life really tricky for the blighters if I was to treat the bailer twine with something like vasoline. It would then make it virtually impossible for them to get to my birds.

What do you think, am I just lucky or have I dropped on something here ? Redmite do after all tend to do most of the damage to the birds at night when they are roosting.

Interesting idea.  Can you supply photos of your oversized budgies on there swings?  The red mite will have no where to hide I agree unless as you say they club to gether in the twine.

Good thought Bodger.  Worth a try for anyone with a problem.

I'd not sugest you do a proper trial though, some on swings and some on fixed perches.

Forget the chickens but have a look at the perch. I have these fitted at various heights in virtually all my chicken pens. Very simple really and allows the birds to exercise and gain balance and poise as they perch.

Looks really good Bodger :D

How would you go about it for larger birds? Is the bailer twine up to the job?? I know it's pretty strong stuff?

Interesting!  Do they all jump or fly up onto the perches okay Bodger?  would save on floor space too rather than a free standing perch.

I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you   They are immature game chickens.
They jump onto the perches in exactly the same way as they would a fixed one.

Got me thinking now.

My knocked-together freestanding perches are a pain to fiddle out and clean round. And they get knocked over. Might try it.

ive only been keeping chucks now for three years, and i have a 8x6 hen house, and what i have is a piece of ply aprox 20" wide down one side of the shed and across the back about 2 foot off the floor, they roost all night on this and each day i use a pigeon muck scraper to remove (or scrape ) direct into a large bucket, got this method off an old timer on our plot, very little droppings go on the floor.

keeps the backache problems at bay

Nogger.
This thread is about trying to keep redmite off your chickens. :thumright:  A droppings board will work with any kind of perch. :D
