I wouldnt think youd have anything to gain G. Just start them off in situ because they like a lot of space for roots

I doubt if it would harm it, it cant get leggy as your BBs did. Plant out in spring when shoots appear

if you have a cold frame then put them in there, lift the window for a couple of hours each day, gradually leaving it open longer and longer until you can leave it open all the time

I would NOT plant them inside.

They need cold to get them going, indeed some people put them in the fridge to achieve this.

Looking at the weather forcast, it looks at though they may get what they want this week!

It is very tempting to think you're doing plants a favour by starting them inside, but this is often not the case & kindness kills, as in the case of brassicas for instance germinated in a propagator at 80c!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I tried last year, they didnt do so good
I think it was because it was just shop bought stuff though, not because they were pot grown. Make sure they have a biggish pot though
Also, make sure they dont get waterlogged because they'll rot

If you've got ground, put them in there - that's where they were designed for.

If not, then by all means try pots outside.
