ordering seed potatos, where do you recomend?
I'm awaiting delivery from Marshalls of a 'Taster Grow Kit' -

3 Potato Gro-bags
5 tubers Charlotte
5 tubers swift
5 tubers Maris Peer

IF all goes wee with them, roughly how much weight of spuds would I be likely to get from them??

The cost was £14.75 plus £3.95

I bought three extra gro-bags and seeds that I couldn't find locally aswell in this order.  I am looking forward to receiving them (even if I have paid over the odds).

But I'm very new to all this and read the boards every day and with all your help hopefully I will learn as I go along!

Thanks Karenx

I reckon to put my first earlies in at the end of March, (then keep my fingers crossed regarding frosts!).

First earlies take about 13 weeks, so we are talking late June, by the book, although I'd probably start digging mid June and get smaller, but tasty spuds. I'm fortunate to be able to plant quite a lot, so while we're diging the titchy spuds, the rest are still growing.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

this year Easter was early and we planted the tattys good friday as i read that on here so if its later next year that cant happen.
I love growing spuds but unless we dig the lawn up the space is limited.
The charlottes this year gave us a nice feed so thats better than nothing :D

I agree my charlottes were lovely.I remember eating them with corgettes and monge tout all grown in the garden. It was our very 1st feast and the best.
I think we will stick with those next year as space is limited.

Im now debating whether to pop to local garden center and get Nantes Frubund carrots for the greenhouse.Im sure i have a couple of spare recycle boxes i could sow them in.

You might want to go to a Potato Day.
There's a list here but I don't know if is complete.
If you can get to one they are usually good value and have a good selection.

Thanks for that.  There is one near me although the date is tbc.  Will keep an eye out in the local press for details.

I'm sure others will be along soon.....................they are all still zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzing probably!  :D

After reading a few threads my pea-brain seems to think about 500g per tuber, (don't ask me exactly how I got to that though) and I'm probably way off base

Still, the excitment must be in the not knowing till you peep at them x

What potato varieties are people growing? I'm about to move into a new house with a tiny garden, which I am allowed to dig up for veg, so I'll be able to use my allotment for more spuds than I originally thought. As I've never grown them before I'm a bit unsure of which varieties to try!

I'm thinking of:

First earlies             Red Duke of York, Pentland Javelin
Second earlies        Charlotte
Mains                     Pink Fir Apple; Maris Piper

Any thoughts/suggestions?!
Sal

Organic...so far!
