Is your fruit and veg a full-time job or do you have paid employment as well? I'm lucky cos my hubby goes out and earns the money so I can have a play at growing our food. Like you my aim is to be self sufficient in fruit and veg except perhaps bananas cos I love them.

OK - have only just got lottie, but there's parsnips, beets lettuce and quite a few small potatoes that previous owner didn't dig up

In cupboard - 4 jars bramble jelly, 4 jars green tomato chutney (toms not very good this year :( ) garlic

In garden
Leeks, parsnip, PSB for spring, few carrots, tiny pumpkins, thyme, swiss chard, few potatoes not yet dug

Cherry toms 4 bags in freezer
Sooo - not bad for a first real year growing veggies methinks :)

Ah fruitfull that's more like it :D I'm just glad I still don't have to get carrots from the supermarket.
I can only boast having a lot more ground ready for planting than I did this time last year :|
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

Full time employment, unfortunately  :(  (I wish I could afford to be at the plots full time instead)  I was made redundant over 3 years ago & after a struggle to get a job, downgraded myself to a lower paid job just so that the mortgage & direct debits were being paid.  The allotments were meant to provide something for the table during "lean times".  This year's price hike in food has meant my plots have been an absolute godsend. :D

I think I'll be following in your footsteps, I'm about to make myself redundant after 3 years working all hours to build up my own business (very small card and gift shop) I can't survive without wages any longer, we would be better off if I close down, save on travelling costs, sell my van, hubby can offset some earnings through my personal allowance and I'll work hard growing food...it's got to be worth a try and if it doesn't work I'll get a paid job at £5.70 an hour (min wage) which is £5.70 an hour more than I'v got this last three years

We had a bumper potato crop this year, took over 600 lbs of just one variety. Up to my ears in spuds now
Carrots did okay but not their best, never are if its a bumper year for spuds.
Parsnips were incredible, big monsters. A 28" wide by 6ft long plot yielded almost a wheelbarrow full so now I must make John's parsnip-carrot mash for the freezer.
Have toms up the ying yang in many forms and far too many red currants. Planted new black currants this fall so they should yield soon for blackcurrant jelly. (hate the seeds)
And garlic....I'm almost swamped in it. Will actually have to sell some so none goes to waste, I have far too much. Won't buy so much seed next time just to try new varieties (13 this year)
And I had no idea runner beans could produce so much

That is so true! After i did my list i felt really pleased. I'd spent too much time worrying about the tomato blight and total failure of pak choi and broccoli, that i'd overlooked the successes.
Thank you!  :D

quite impressive painted lady.  I have suffered through not having a big enough freezer but aim to rectify that.

Freezer - broad beans, runner beans, sweetcorn, chilli peppers
on shelf - chutneys; courgette, beetroot, green tom, red tom, plum and tom, apple and plum  (i quite like chutney   )
Storage in the garage - jap onions, red onions, white onions, garlic, potatoes (5 varieties), pumpkin and squash

Not bad for a 1st year on the plot!

Used to be indecisive, now i'm not so sure...
