Can I grow lettuce in gro-bags?

If so peat free or peat in.....................?
 
I have a garden approx 20 feet by 13 feet.  I'm going to try growing stuff in large containers.  I have a garage wall (20 foot long) thats south facing and wondered about growing some fruit trees up that (not read about fruit trees yet, so am quite clueless there).

I thought about growing lettuce in gro bags along the base of the garage, then if they do well in that spot I could make it permanent and get them in the ground next time.

Limited space and gro-bags sounds great for lettuce... tomatos would like the south facing wall too! I'm just finishing off some lettuce I've had in 5 inch pots on the patio... you'll be surprised at what you can grow in a small area.

There are loads of varieties of winter lettuces, and a trip to your garden centre might yield some plants which you could put into your grow bags

Mine were "Little Gem" and "Lollo Rosso" but these won't grow over winter - ideal from spring sowings tho! Lettuce is one of the easier things to grow so just grow the ones you like, can get the seed easily and follow the instructions on the packet.

i've heard of "winter density" too but never grown it, cheers amc
