hi i am trying to germinate some fresh seed and i have got rid of all the pulp surrounding the seed but for the life of me i cant remember how to test the seed viability is it sink ok float bad or the other way round !!!
help please

Never heard of this I will be interested to find out.
I know you can apply this test to see if eggs have gone bad but seed ...........?????

The ones floating are light, but you need to wait for a while to be certain and try to submerge them every now and then, it's because they can't take water up, so won't germinate in all likelihood. Those full of water do sink.

But, some seeds have a dormancy, so depending what it is, you might not be able to germinate them as fresh.

i am trying red currant seeds purley because i cant buy the plants here ,,,any ideas

Doogh, another growing apples on the tropics gardener! :roll:

Why you can't find them jolly well has it's reasons as temperate climate plants don't do that well down there.

I don't know specifically about these currant seeds but most soft fruit seeds need a chilling period, i do know that.

But never mind that, the plants do need a term of dormancy triggerred by cold weather. You can chill the seed, unlikely you can do that to the plant in growth.
