Look like spring onions but are they??
« on: October 15, 2008, 18:41 »
I have got these little onion things growing all over my garden,  when i say all over i really mean it,  poping up in single shots and patches of multiple shots all over the garden.

I think/thought they where spring onions, but I have been told they are not *puzzled*  I havent planted them however the previous owner may have but it would of been a year or so ago.  We have had garden turned and dug over with a digger so that may of been the thing that dragged them around the garden,

the pictures are awful but what do you think

Looks like Field Garlic to me.  Some are sprouting already this year, ready for next year.

Check your local native plant database to see if it is prolific in your area.

Very strong or just little. :?  And not too good photos but if that's their leaves that's no onion leaves.

Unfortunately there are a few bulbs that have the nasty habit of going around the garden that look similar, like bluebells and grape hyacynth, though I can't remember what they smell like at all.

Maybe welsh onions.  They basically last forever.  They are planted in bunches and you can use them like chives or spring onions. Sometimes they bulb up more like small onions.
