Can I use squash for my pumpkin pie?

As in the title really, all other ingredients the same, but just using butternut instead.  I have more flesh in my 2kg butternut than I have in my 30lb pumpkin!

People make some pretty delicious pies from sweet potatoes so I would think any kind of squash would do the job. Apparently the secret is to bake the halved squash/pumpkin for about 30 minutes first to enrich the flavour.
